Whipping it Up

I had the pleasure of seeing a preview of Whipping it Up last Saturday. A great show very much in the Yes Minister mold, lead superbly by Richard Wilson.

He was very much in the Victor Meldrew mode, but it worked well, and old people swearing (a lot) is funny in itself. The audience was quite old (full of aging politicos I think), which did mean the one and only joke containing the C word caused H & I to nearly wet ourselves, and completely passed the rest of the audience by.

I saw this on Tuesday night and was disapointed. Wilson was funny with his fart jokes, and the Deputy Labour Whip was chewing up the scenary; but at times it was as if the other members of the cast had never been introduced. Certainly no comedic spark between them. But that might have been a function of it being an early preview on a wet tuesday night.
